JAR Bolt of Lightning: The Arrival

by nathanbranch on August 3, 2008 | COMMENTS

My initial test drive of JAR Bolt of Lightning can be found here: “What began, to my nose, as a soaked pile of grass clippings and tree leaves in the back yard after a storm transformed into an airy, fresh, lightly green and subtly sweet concoction — warm sunshine on wet roses, thanks to a golden, shimmery musk shot through the heart of it.”

JAR Perfumes can only be purchased from the JAR boutique in Paris or from Bergdorf Goodman in New York. Fortunately, the JAR representatives at Bergdorf Goodman are willing to take orders over the telephone; unfortunately, they still seem intent on sticking to the pitch.

“Yes yes yes, I understand, JAR perfumes are the best in the world, the most talented minds creating premium fragrances out of the highest quality ingredients available — all hail the masters! Can I give you my credit card number now?”

Wow – that is just gorgeous! I don’t usually go in for the bottle pouches and what-not, but that presentation is too pretty not to comment. Great job on the photos as well.

Thanks Sharil, and good to see that you’ve joined in the fray!
I was really taken with the whole of the presentation. It’s so much more understated than the Jalaine Vetiver packaging, and I like it better because of that. It doesn’t hype itself when you open it up, it just is what it is — a beautiful, simple piece of work.

Yes, and the big “J” and black foam that Jalaine used didn’t quite get there…

Ha! You’re so right. They should have stuck with a simpler presentation, because Jalaine Vetiver is a very nice scent in and of itself — it didn’t need the big wood box, the huge gold “J” and the heavy cut-glass bottle to make it stand out.
It’s almost like they’re trying to compensate for something . . .
I’m wearing Bolt of Lightning as I type this. Great stuff.

Hi Nathan (and Sharil!!), it’s besotted from POL. What lovely, lovely photos. I always say frags could come in juice boxes for all I care about packaging – it’s the smell I’m after – but I just made an exception to the rule. Elegant, well done presentation. Congrats and enjoy your new pretty!
OK, off to read more of your fine blog. xxxooo

Terry! How nice to see you in the neighborhood. Give me fair warning next time and I’ll make sure there’s coffee . . . and cookies . . . and a DJ . . . ?
I agree about the bottling. I’m often annoyed at extraneous nonsense that manufacturers slap over a product in order to make you think it’s more special than it actually is, but the quiet simplicity of the JAR presentation took me by surprise.
Glad you enjoyed the pics!

How could JAR be so unsophisticated as to overlook a Texas outpost? Perhaps a small bunker in the basement of Nieman Marcus or inside a Donald Judd piece in Marfa is in order.
Congratulations on navagating a phone order and mazel tov on your new arrival!

Exactly. What’s Dallas, anyway — chopped Longhorn Liver?
*harumph*
I can’t be the only one here willing to pay way too much money for one measly ounce of fleeting glory. In fact, I know I’m not.
Thanks for the Mazel, and for stopping by. I Iike your site — I’m adding a link to my blogroll.
