Yohji Yamamoto by Yohji Yamamoto for Men
Yohji Yamamoto for Men is not the same creature as Yohji Homme. Yohji Homme is a sweet, anise infused fragrance with a warm and spicy amber base. It's one of the more edible gourmands for men and it's sadly discontinued.
Yohji Yamamoto for Men is a sheer, rather translucent cologne that blends right into the skin after an hour or so of wear. It exhibits a lighter than air quality, with a wispy layer of incense smoke over a base of warm, transparent musk -- with maybe even a little cumin for good measure.
It's extremely easy to wear and reminds me a bit of S-eX by S-Perfumes, as well as MoslBuddJewChristHinDao by Elternhaus.
Yohji Yamamoto for Men is getting more and more difficult to find. I haven't read or heard that it's been discontinued, but very few internet retailers carry it in stock, and I have yet to find it for sale in a physical store.
The bottle for Yohji Yamamoto for men is a terrific example of sleek Japanese minimalism. Its graceful curves and geometric planes are evocative not only of the light, simple juice it contains, but also of contemporary architectural design -- I think I get a whiff of Frank Gehry! I bought a sample of Yohji Yamamoto believing I was buying Yohji Homme - my own fault, not paying attention. It was as evanescent as a bit of breeze in August, just a flash of a pleasant citrus, and then nothing. Of course, I had the same experience with S-ex, just a hint of a scent I couldn't pin down before it vanished.
I shall have to try them both again.
Yohji Homme turned out to be splendid though. Of COURSE it's not made any more.
Haven't heard of Yohji Yamamoto cologne before, but now I want to check it out.
And the bottle looks awesome.
Juno -- I did THE SAME THING! Not paying attention, my own fault, yada yada -- but it seems I turned out to enjoy Yohji Yamamoto for Men more than you did.
I like that whole barely-there school of fragrance -- there's a casual, laid-back warmth to YY4M and S-eX that I find a distinct pleasure to wear. And hey -- I found that there are still a couple of bottles of Yohji Homme for sale on eBay, in case you're looking to stock up.
Scott -- you should send me an email with your mailing address. I can send you out a sample of the YY4M from the bottle I have, as there's no way you'll ever find an open tester bottle of it in a retail store.
Granted, the photos make the bottle look particularly attractive, but it's a very cool bottle, nonetheless.
Well, I am going to give it a another try, as generally the things you are most enthusiastic about are things I like very much. It's possible that the distinct not-aniseness of what came out of the spray flipped me out, the reversal of expectation.
On the other hand, before I started smelling perfume on a budget-damaging level, I wore Fracas for years. So it may just be that understated bewilders me. I was a teenage girl in the 80s, after all......
And yes, a bottle of Yohji Homme has been secured.
LOL!
Well, yes, I can certainly see how a Fracas lovin' gal might consider Yohji Yamamoto for Men to have an invisibility problem. I doubt you need to give it another test run, as it hasn't picked up any steam since your last visit, and there's no point in trying to sniff out something that simply isn't there for you.
Yohji Homme is just terrific, anyway, so I think you've more than fulfilled your Yohji duties for this lifetime. :)
While we're on the subject of Yohji -- have you tested out Yohji Yamamoto for Women? I have not, and am curious as to how it compares to its male counterpart.
Isn't it fantastic? Every time I've worn it I've had such a sense of pleasure in moving through the day with that scent.
Have not tried the YY for women. Will look for a sample...
